posted by Richard Rife on May 8th, 2010 at 8:27 AM

For most of human history, people worked hard--morning, noon, and night--just to eek out a meager existence. Their work was physical in nature, requiring much energy. But the problem was trying to find enough calories to eat each day.

We have been a bishopric for about four and one-half years. There have been four Mothers Days during that time. The first year, we gave flowers, delivering them on the Saturday morning before Mothers Day. The past three years we have given Kara chocolates after Sacrament Meeting.

posted by Richard Rife on April 16th, 2010 at 8:53 AM

Yesterday, my friend and colleague, Mike Drake, and I ate lunch at Costco. We do this occasionally, because the hotdog is not bad and, with a drink, costs only $1.62 with tax. As an added benefit, you get to burp the frankfurter for the rest of the day and into the night. Moreover, the ambiance is excellent. (I recall an ad from Ernst Home Center that said "We have a warehouse, too; we just don't make you shop in it." And yet, Costco is thriving and Ernst is out of business.)
