Six weeks ago, I visited the dentist for my six-month checkup. Angie, my hygienist, told me that my gums were showing the first signs of gingivitis. She said I should floss morning and night for six weeks, rinse my mouth with some medicine, and return in six weeks.
I did. For the first time in my life, I flossed, morning and night. It's now become a habit, and I don't mind doing it at all. It only took me 56 years to get the hang of it.
Angie was so proud of me. My flossing and rinsing worked. Gums healed. Now, I faithfully floss and rinse (with Listorine) morning and night.
This morning at bishopric meeting, my counselor, Dave Tobler, whose brother is a dentist, started giving me a dentist flossing quote. It was a quote that his brother had posted in his office for a period of time. I was sure he was going to say "You don't have to floss all your teeth, just the ones you want to keep." But, in fact, he said something else entirely, something far more humorous:
"If you think flossing is a pain in the butt, you are probably doing it wrong."
