My grandson, Andrew Rife Buchanan, is two years old. He has a head full of curly blond hair. He is adorable.
▣ Hill Cumorah Pageant
Janet and I spent the week of July 12th in upstate New York attending the Hill Cumorah Pageant. Our son, Michael, is in the cast of the pageant. He is Sam, the older brother of Nephi in the vision scene. He also throws rocks at Samuel the Lamanite and dies during the destruction scene at the death of the Savior in the Old World. Miraculously, he is alive again and in the blessed group the Savior visits when he appears in the New World.

My grandson, Ayden, has said a couple of cute things relating to me over the past month.

As you know, I grew up in Springville, Utah, center of the universe. I still put my hand over my heart every time I enter the city limits.
▣ Irony of Modern U.S. Life
For most of human history, people worked hard--morning, noon, and night--just to eek out a meager existence. Their work was physical in nature, requiring much energy. But the problem was trying to find enough calories to eat each day.
▣ Flowers or Candy?
We have been a bishopric for about four and one-half years. There have been four Mothers Days during that time. The first year, we gave flowers, delivering them on the Saturday morning before Mothers Day. The past three years we have given Kara chocolates after Sacrament Meeting.

As many of you know, humor is an important value in my life. I like to laugh. I like a good joke. I like to see the humor in life. I like a good turn of a phrase.
▣ Great and Spacious Building
I generally don't attend General Conference in the Conference Center. I usually take it in in the comfort of my own home, seated on my comfortable sofa, with a diet soda nearby. However, once, after returning from our mission in Korea, our family did attend conference in SLC.
